The 2023 vintage in Central Otago will be remembered for its cool, drawn-out season and outstanding fruit quality, producing Pinot Noir wines of elegance, purity, and structure. A wet,
variable spring created challenges during flowering, leading to lower yields across many sites. However, summer settled into warm, dry conditions with abundant sunshine, ensuring steady ripening without excessive heat stress. The hallmark of the season was the long, slow ripening period through March and April, allowing for excellent tannin maturity, vibrant natural acidity, and deeply expressive aromatics. Cooler
nights preserved freshness and delicate florals, while the smaller crop concentrated flavour and colour. Grapes were harvested from select vineyards and carefully destemmed. Fermentations combined wild and cultured yeasts, and the wine was aged in French oak barriques (15% new) for around 16 months before blending and bottling.
